Patronize DMIA

“No matter how successful we are in securing air entitlements or no matter how many airlines will be convinced to fly here, still we need more passengers to sustain the flights,” thus said Arch. Nestor Mangio, chairman of the Clark International Airport Corp. (CIAC).

Of course the passengers are an important factor to ensure the full development of the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) as a premier airport in the country. That is why Mangio said CIAC is now doing the tourism road show to promote the flights at DMIA.



Mangio is even appealing to all to patronize the airlines flying in Clark to increase passenger traffic. At present, Asiana Airlines is one of the biggest carrier in Clark . Asiana was named airline of the year by the Air Transport World (ATW). They are flying in 62 major cities and destinations worldwide including China , Japan , Korea , United States , London , Paris , India , Malaysia , Singapore , Hongkong , Taiwan , Russia and Sydney . It has 65 modern aircraft and the first airline to be ISO 2002 certified for aircraft maintenance.

But of course, there are a lot of reasons why people fly via a certain airport. It could be convenience, accessibility, comfort or safety. As for DMIA, Mangio said everything is being put into place.

The chairman said CIAC, which manages DMIA, has a very dynamic and excellent team. He calls it a team because everyone in CIAC is really doing his own part to complete all the ingredients for the success of the airport. “Ï am really happy that Mr. Chichos (Victor Jose Luciano, CIAC president) is there. He is a very good team player. The board, where I sit as the head, gives direction to the management and Chichos execute the plans very well,” Mangio said.

Aside from the energetic team, Mangio said the Terminal 2 and other facilities are being prepared. As early as last year, the CIAC chairman said they have talking with an investor from Kuwait, who is known as the second richest man in the Middle East and one of the top 100 billionaires named by Fortune Magazine last year.

The said investor developed Barsa Al-am in Egypt and Dubai Airport while it offers to develop the whole aviation complex with additional 2,000 hectare in Sacobia or the Next Frontier. Mangio said the first talks were unsuccessful although new talks are on so he is hoping that it would be for the best.

DMIA’s Terminal 2, pegged at P6 billion, is designed to accommodate more passengers for DMIA from the current two million to seven million passengers. This is part of CIAC’s medium-term development plan. This is in preparation to the influx of international and domestic passengers brought by Tiger Airways, Cebu Pacific, SeaAir and Asiana airlines. DMIA recorded three million passengers last year and at the rate it is going, there is no doubt that such projection will be accomplished.
